Weather Guide

In the North, the best time of year to visit is from November to February, when temperatures are not too hot or cool. April and May are hot in the plains and this is when the hill stations of India are at their best. June through to October is the monsoon season, when the snow over the high passes melts and the roads reopen. In the South it is tropical - hot, humid and sometimes wet. During the monsoon there is heavy rain, but at other times of the year most rain falls during the night. The high season (when there is less rainfall) usually begins in October/November and ends in April/May. For Ayurvedic treatments, the monsoon period is said to be the best time of year.
