Prices are listed on our tour pages and are based on a minimum of 2 people travelling together on your own preferred departure and return dates, sharing a car and double/twin room. Top range prices are based on your staying in 5 and 4 star accommodation and Mid range prices are based on en-suite 4 and 3 star accommodation. We can also help if you have a budget to stick to so please do get in touch with us to discuss your travel requirements.

Who looks after us? How our tours work is that from the moment you arrive in India our agents will meet you and their responsibility is to ensure that you are transferred as per your itinerary and escorted onto trains and met etc. All train and domestic flight bookings are reserved in advance. Travel by train is in comfortable air-con carriage in 4/6 berth cabins with padded berths/seats. You will have an English speaking driver and our local English speaking guides will escort you on your sightseeing tours.

Private tailor-made treks. Many clients choose to have tailor-made treks. This applies to individuals, groups of friends, honeymooners and schools who would prefer to fix their own dates and plan their own itinerary. Private treks cost approximately the same, and often less, than our equivalent brochure departures. Many clients prefer not to have a European leader and are happy to trek with the assistance of our well qualified English speaking Sherpas.

Prices for our Craft, Photography and Cookery tours are based on 4 people travelling together in twin/dbl room accommodation. Our treks are guaranteed to run for a minimum of 2 people. Maximum 16.

THE IMPACT OF TRAVEL

Having lived and worked in India for many years, we have frequently seen some of the negative environmental and cultural impacts that foreign tourism can bring. At essential India Travel, we are making every effort to minimise any adverse impacts that our business may have and, as importantly, to maximise the benefits.

Wherever practical, we employ 'in situ' staff, which profits the local economy. In addition, we pay a fair rate, as overpaying for staff and services can be as destructive as underpaying. We also prefer to use locally owned hotels and restaurants (rather than corporate or multinational chains) where possible, again helping to ensure that local businesses and families benefit. We have trained our trekking staff to be aware of potential environmental damage and ensure that all waste material is packed out or appropriately disposed of on site. We ask our clients to be aware of the impact they may have and to observe local traditions, particularly with respect to dress.

It is important to remember that tourism can have positive impacts too. As a result of regular employment, many of our ground staff are now in a position where they can afford to send their children to school, rather than to work, and can pay for medical care for their families.

This is a brief summary of our views and more information is given in our detailed India Travel Guide. If you have any further concerns or questions, please do call us on 01225 868544 .
